FAQ

Questions, answered honestly.

Where a detail hasn't been decided, we say so.

What is Forge Creative?

Forge Creative is building an integrated ecosystem of professional creative applications for photography, image editing, video, design, audio, publishing, and documents. The suite is designed to share one foundation and one planned subscription. It is in development, and no application is publicly available yet.

Is Forge Creative available?

Not yet. Photo Forge is in active development, and the other applications are planned. There are no public downloads, betas, or subscriptions today. Join the early-access list to hear when there is something to try.

Which application is being developed first?

Photo Forge, a professional image editor with layers, drawing tools, typography, masks, and editing workflows. Light Forge, for photography and RAW processing, is planned to follow once Photo Forge reaches a release-readiness milestone.

Will Forge work on Linux?

Yes. Linux is the primary platform. Photo Forge is developed and tested on Linux first.

Are Windows and macOS planned?

Yes. Windows and macOS are planned targets. Photo Forge is built on Qt and Rust, which both run on all three platforms, but Windows and macOS builds have not been verified yet, and no date has been set.

How much will Forge Creative cost?

The planned launch price is $10 per month for the whole suite, as applications are released. This is a proposal, not an active offer: subscriptions are not available, and the price could change before launch.

Will there be a free trial?

A free trial has not been announced. Any trial details will be published on the pricing page and sent to the early-access list before anything goes on sale.

Will Forge support Photoshop files?

High-quality PSD compatibility is a long-term goal for Photo Forge. It is not a released feature, and work on it has not started. Today, development builds open PNG and JPEG and save native .pforge documents.

Will Photoshop brushes work?

Importing Photoshop .ABR brush presets is a long-term goal. It is not a released feature. Photo Forge currently has its own brush presets.

Will Forge support third-party plugins?

An extension and plugin architecture, with developer documentation and a future Forge Marketplace, is part of the long-term vision. It is not available yet, and the details have not been designed.

Will Forge use AI?

Forge focuses on traditional professional editing and creation tools. AI is not the centerpiece. Any AI features will be optional, and core editing will never require AI, an account, or an internet connection.
